FAQs
General & Billing
How will I be billed?
AWS bills commercial customers in advance on the first of each month and roll-off dumpster customers in arrears on the last day of each month. If you prepaid, you'll still receive a statement showing how the payment was applied.
Invoices and statements are mailed on the 1st of each month. Electronic billing is available, and you can log into your account online to view up to 18 months of invoices.
How and where do I pay my bill?
Pay online through Pay Your Bill. AWS accepts all major credit and debit cards. You can also mail a check or money order to PO Box 53426, Lafayette, LA 70505.
How do I know what type of service I need?
An AWS professional will gladly discuss your needs by phone or meet at your location. Call (337) 205-7710 or contact AWS and someone will be in touch.
FAQs
Residential Services
These answers reflect AWS residential collection in Lafayette Parish.
When will my garbage cart be delivered?
Cart requests for new service, second carts, replacement carts, or recycling carts (inside Lafayette incorporated limits only) are fulfilled within three business days. To pick up a cart immediately, visit the AWS office at 2107 Carmel Drive, Lafayette, LA 70501.
What do I do if my pickup day falls on a holiday?
AWS does not operate on New Year's Day, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. If your pickup falls on one of these holidays, it is collected the next day and all subsequent days that week are pushed back one day.
See the full Holiday Schedule.
How do I dispose of appliances, furniture, or other bulky items?
A dedicated AWS team picks up large items on your scheduled collection day using a separate vehicle, so they will not be removed with your normal trash.
While not required, please schedule pickup through the contact form, by emailing customerservice@acadianawaste.com, or by calling (337) 205-7710.
How do I dispose of large piles of yard waste?
AWS picks up tree trimmings not exceeding six feet in length placed at the curb on your regular collection day. Please schedule at least 24 hours in advance through the contact form, customerservice@acadianawaste.com, or (337) 205-7710.
AWS only picks up trimmings performed by residents. Commercial tree-trimming companies are responsible for their own disposal.
What should I do with my Christmas tree?
You may leave your Christmas tree at the curb on your regular collection day.
FAQs
Commercial Services
When will my business be serviced?
Specific service-day requests are considered, but AWS schedules commercial service on the best day and route for similar customers or locations. You'll then be serviced weekly on the same day(s).
What happens if my container location is blocked?
Keeping the container in a clearly marked location free of obstacles is the customer's responsibility. If a container cannot be serviced, AWS will attempt to contact you during business hours.
Can I put anything in my commercial trash container?
No. For environmental reasons, you cannot dispose of batteries, wet paint, chemicals, tires, or toxic or hazardous waste. Call AWS with any questions about what can go in your container.
FAQs
Roll-Off & Compactors
Open-top roll-off containers are used for projects such as construction, renovation and cleanouts. Compactors are a separate, ongoing solution for high-volume businesses.
How much can I put in an open-top roll-off container?
Load materials only to the top of the container — do not overfill — so it can be tarped for transport. Overloading is a DOT violation; if a driver judges a container overloaded, you may be asked to remove material before it can be safely hauled.
What can and can't go in a roll-off container?
Not accepted: batteries, liquids of any type, wet cement or mortar, paint or paint cans, chemicals or chemical containers, drums, tires, toxic or hazardous waste, items containing Freon, and gas or propane tanks.
Accepted: construction debris and general household trash. Concrete, bricks, creosote lumber, asbestos and shingles are accepted only with advance notice so special landfill arrangements can be made.
What is the difference between solid waste and C&D?
Municipal solid waste (MSW) is everyday household trash such as food waste and furnishings. Construction and demolition (C&D) debris comes from building, remodeling or demolition — cabinets, doors, sheetrock, carpet — and goes to a C&D facility. C&D projects usually need a roll-off rental rather than a standard trash container.
How quickly can you provide roll-off service?
If you know how long your job will take, delivery and removal can be scheduled when you set up your account. Otherwise, please contact Dispatch 48–72 hours before you need a container swapped or removed. In most cases AWS can provide service sooner.
Do you offer compactors?
Yes. Compactor options are discussed with businesses individually. Contact AWS to review whether a compactor fits your operation.
FAQs
Recycling
Curbside recycling is available only inside the City of Lafayette incorporated limits.
I live in the city. How do I start recycling, and is there a cost?
Request a recycling cart through the Recycling Program page or call (337) 205-7710. There is no charge for the recycling cart; the service is included in your monthly bill.
What can I recycle?
Rinsed aluminum and steel cans, clean foil and pie plates; paper and corrugated cardboard (not shredded, no cardboard food boxes); and plastic containers with a neck, such as bottles and jugs. Do not bag recyclables. See the full materials guide.
I live in a rural area without curbside recycling. How can I recycle?
Parish residents can bring recyclables to the drop-off area at the AWS facility, 2107 Carmel Drive, Lafayette, LA 70501, Monday–Friday 8 a.m.–5 p.m. and Saturday 8 a.m.–noon.
